what is barre?
There are many different types of Barre, most forms utilize a ballet barre and combine the use of light weights, a ball and a resistance band.
My specific barre that I teach is based on Pilates movements which all stem from strengthening your core and using small muscle groups. Focusing on low-impact, high intensity movements designed to strengthen and tone your body. The perfect blend of small movements and cardio which will leave you feeling the burn and seeing that sweat!
who can do it?
Absolutely anyone! There is a stigma that Barre is only for women or dancers, which isn’t the case at all. I have had rugby players in my class that claim it to be the toughest workout they have ever done! It is all about challenging yourself, setting personal goals and pushing yourself just a little bit more every time. You are in this for you and only you. There is no age limit, no body type restriction and it is even safe for pregnant ladies. If you have any questions or need to know what you can and can’t do if you are pregnant please drop me a message at any time: info@raisethebarre.co.za
my story
I began my barre instructor journey teaching at a studio in Cape Town. I loved inspiring people daily though high intensity workouts, watching as each person moved closer to achieving their personal goals, this was until the country wide lockdown in my home South Africa. As a result people could no longer leave their home to come to barre but I did not see that as a reason to stop so I decided to bring barre to them.
My online barre community quickly grew, with users loving the live workouts and the fact that it was inivative and user friendly which left them wanting more. That is when Raise the Barre was born, giving exercise lovers a safe space to workout, share progress and be guided to reach their goals and all doing so with passion, energy and the love for your body.
I believe that we are all on our own fitness journey, you should never compare yourself to anyone else. You can only do better than you did the day before, and as long as you keep pushing and you believe in yourself you can only go forwards.
Time to Raise the Barre! xx
